There's A Light, A Certain Kind of Light...

You meet someone and it just clicks. That's how it was the first time I met Sybil Rosen, about a year ago. She's an award-winning author, screenwriter, playwright, and amazingly warm, sincere, talented and giving woman.

She spoke again at our local writers’ meeting yesterday in Carrollton GA. Her book Living in the Woods in a Tree: Remembering Blaze Foley having just been released by UNT Press in September, she shared with us a bit about both the experience of writing the book and having it published.

I encourage each of you to Google Sybil Rosen and get a sense of her accomplishments. I would also urge you to take a moment to look at where it is in your life, in your person, in your being and embrace that place where you carry your light.

We all have it. Some of us just emit it a bit more than others.

Thanks to Sybil, yesterday was a little brighter. And today…

The Sun Exercise Has Set!

Here I am practicing my Yoga poses! Okay, I lied. Heck, after a couple of decades away from Yoga, I'm lucky to put my shoes on after class! A heating pad, warm bath and Aleve have become my friends.

Back in that other lifetime, I could do the Sun Exercise with such grace and ease. Now, I feel fortunate when I don't slide off the mat or lunge into another person with my backside.

The word I will use for the experience at this phase of my life is humbling. When you have to grab your leg with one hand and move it forward, or flop into a position like a hog in mud while others are doing some swan maneuver, it makes you look at your body in a whole new light.

You have to love your body for at least getting you to class. You have to love it for managing to flop onto the mat and not into the spinning bikes lined up in the back of the room knocking them down like dominoes (becuase of course, you always head straight for the back of the room and scoot others' mats around to make a space for yourself).

So I'm here to encourage ANYONE who has the slightest nudge to take up Yoga to do it. Take it at your own pace, and be grateful for the chance to embrace something new.

Okay, where did I put that Aleve bottle?

These are a few of my favorite things...

10. Jewelry -- Haven't bought a toe ring yet, but only because I haven't found the right one.
9. Chocolate -- It actually belongs higher on the list, but I was afraid I'd forget to include it after going to the fridge for a Dove dark chocolate Promise.
8. Reading about myself -- I know. It's not cool to admit such a thing, but I just realized when I read the article about me (okay me & my best friend) in our hometown newspaper, it felt good.
7. Reading about others I care about -- Well, maybe I've redeemed myself a little?!?! I'm putting others before me!! (Ha! Not really when you consider the direction this is being read!)
6. Reading in general -- I used to be such a slow reader. I've learned in my old age that you can skim and the world does not come to an end. Who knew?
5. This great big, wild, wonderful world -- It gets smaller every day, so it's a little easier to get my head around it. Just this year my husband and I (not together except in spirit) have been to South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Japan.
4. My home -- I do love the world, but there's no place like home.
3. The pets who have blessed my life -- Pompy, Charlie & Chrissie.
2. My family members and friends -- talk about blessed. I'm eternally grateful for each and every one.
1. Breathing -- Couldn't live without it!

It's My Life

Bon Jovi sings about it. Life. Well, this is my new life. Book fairs and conventions. And oddly enough, I love it!

Not so much the concrete floors, which are hard on WOOFer feet and legs. But I love, love, love meeting new people!

Who knew a writer could come out of her shell and enjoy interacting with people...instead of putting words on paper (or computer), forming words in her mouth and speaking them. Maybe it's the instant gratification thing.

I don't know, but it has quickly become one of my favorite things. People are fascinating and basically share the same needs and wants. Who knew?

And sometimes they actually buy a book or two.

Sweeeet.
